Chickenpox (medically known as varicella) is a highly contagious disease caused by a virus called the varicella-zoster virus. An infected person can spread it easily and quickly. Chickenpox is easily spread through the coughs and sneezes of an infected person as it is an airborne disease which spreads easily
Although more widespread in children, the disease is often more severe in adults than in children, especially pregnant women & smokers. Symptoms take 10 to 21 days to develop.
